BASIC
ROCK CLIMBING I
This one day seminar is offered every Saturday and
selected weekdays All classes meet at 8:00 a.m. and end at approximately
3:30 - 4:30 p.m. For the beginner or the newcomer!
Most people think that rock climbing is an upper bodystrength oriented sport. The fact of the matter is rock climbing primarily uses legs, good footwork and balance. Being able to do a pull up is not a prerequisite to learning to rock climb. If you have a desire to try rock climbing, you have met the prerequisite.
This one day curriculum begins with "ground school", in which we go bouldering (rock climbing low to the ground) learning and implementing spotting, precision footwork, refining balance , weight transfering, awareness and usage of rock features (hand holds and foot holds), energy conservation and choreographing individual moves. This confidence building exercise in footwork, balance and trust are key to your individual progress and enjoyment.
Followed by our "Bouldering Session" we continue with our ground school. This includes explanations on rock climbing equipment and its proper use and care. Two variations of the figure 8 knot, belaying (a rock climber's safety system), communication signals and rock climbing terms are also taught during ground school. Much of the day you are practicing your belaying/ lowering and climbing skills on top-rope protected climbs up to 80 feet. This class is a great introduction to the fundamentals of rock climbing. Learning to rock climb in a place with incredible natural beauty make for an unforgettable quality experience. Combine the Basic Rock Climbing
I with our Basic Rock Climbing II for our most popular
class the Basic Rock Climbing Weekend.
